Long-Lasting Make-Up

On your wedding day you want to be sure that your make-up is going to last. You will want to look fabulous at the ceremony, in your photos and right through to the reception when your evening guests arrive. So here are some helpful hints and tips to make sure you look gorgeous and your make-up stays fresh all day long.

Use a primer

A skin primer helps to prepare your skin. It will even out your skin-tone, blot away oiliness and help the application of foundation. I recommend: MAC Prep + Prime Skin.

Shine-Free Skin

Apply translucent powder over your foundation to seal your base and make your skin look beautifully matte. To stay shine-free all day take some blotting papers in your handbag. I use: Too Faced Refresh Blotting papers.

Brows

Your eyebrows are an important feature and shape your face. Make sure they are waxed or plucked into shape before you big day. On the morning hold them in place using a brow fixer or just a dab of Vaseline.

Eyeshadow

Apply an eyeshadow base. I use F.Y.I by Benefit. This stops your eyeshadow from creasing and makes the colour last even longer. My favourite eyeshadows are by Bourgeois – they have a wide range of shades ranging from beautiful bridal neutrals to vibrant colours. They are incredibly hard wearing and if you use them dry they create a soft colour, but if applied using a wet brush or applicator they produce a really dramatic look.

Mascara

Always use a waterproof mascara. Weddings can be very emotional occasions and you don’t want to be a bride with panda eyes! I use MAC’s waterproof mascara in either Black Splash or Charcoal Brown.

Lips

Define your lips with a lipliner. Choose either a clear liner, such as Benefit’s Definer D’liner, or a shade that is exactly the same colour as your natural lip colour. Also colour in your whole lip area with the pencil to provide a good base for your lipstick or gloss.

Fixing Products

Finally, use a fixer to seal your make-up. For certain areas such as eyeliner or brows I suggest using She-Lac, which is a clear product that brushes onto the area, making sure it won’t budge. I also use Clarins Fix-Spray, which is a light mist that keeps your make-up in place for up to 8 hours. A quick spritz during the day also keeps your make-up looking fresh. So all your have to worry about is having a good time!
